A taste of wine on the Space Coast

East Coast Winery Melbourne Florida

East Coast Winery photo EastCoastWinery.jpg

East Coast Winery is a local winery in Melbourne , Florida. Whether you are paying them a personal visit or communicating through email or phone you are greeted with friendly and helpful customer service. They know the scoop on Florida wine and beer. You'll discover a wide variety of Florida wines made from berries , grapes and citrus. If you visit the store you can have a sample of the daily tastings. (Yum) The wine tasting is Free.

Personally, the Key Lime Wine is at the top of my list and also a best seller for East Coast. This wine is a Florida State fair Winner, an Epcot International Food & Wine Selection and several other awards as well. It really does say Florida. If you love margaritas this wine will be a good choice for you. Hurricane 5 was another top choice for myself. Hurricane 5 is a blend of fruit wines in the form of a white sangria. It goes well with most any dish and is quite refreshing. Every part of this wine including the taste has that Florida feel. Those are just a few of my favorites. There are so many to choose from. A citrus and chocolate wine called Cocoa Beach a local favorite. A banana wine "Florida Banana" made 100% from bananas , or Mango Mama for a tropical semi-sweet touch.

This little shop is a great place to find that unique gift to share over the holidays. With plenty of help to find the perfect touch . Stop by and browse around the many bottles or send them a message . You can have a bottle or even a gift basket shipped and surprise someone on your holiday list.

5 things to do in Fernandina Beach Florida

If you are looking for a place to spend some family time, learn a little bit of history and explore Amelia Island is a great place to spend a day or two . From Jacksonville you can arrive by car in a little under an hour most days. (30 minutes from Jacksonville International Airport) There is so much to do on this small island you might decide to stay in a bed & breakfast (Florida House Inn is a personal favorite) or try one of the great spa resorts on the island.

Fernandina Beach Florida photo 5thingstodoinFernandina.jpg
Things to do in Fernandina Beach Florida
1. Soak up the Sun - at the Beach 13 miles of beautiful beaches there are plenty of beach access spots for you to park and walk on. At the Southern tip of the island you will find Amelia Island State Park . This park is one of the few areas on the East Coast that allows horseback riding on the beach and riding tours. Enjoy the sand and surf for a bit while here. Take a jet ski tour and take in the wild horses of Cumberland Island. Try one of the guided fishing tours or just stop in at the marina and take in the many fishing boats. You might even drop by on a day that they are having a fishing tournament.
2. Play - Pirate Playground if you have smaller children this is a definite must do! Pirate Playground is one of a kind with all areas being accessible to children with physical disabilities. There are several sensory areas in the park such as the really cool sand and water area and the music zone. If you want to get wet also just steps away there is a pool and splash pad for $5 admittance. This little park is packed full of fun and was just opened in Fernandina in May 2014.
3. Stroll - A stroll down Center Street is worth a visit for so many different reasons. Take a few minutes to enjoy the history, take in the architecture and lovely brick buildings, and of course enjoy the shopping and retail therapy. Center Street has all kinds of unique shops like the Christmas Shop, the Bookstore gets our vote for a #1 stop and don’t forget to drop by the Palace Saloon Florida’s oldest bar.
4. Eat - Something everyone enjoys is eating while on vacation. While on Center Street take in some of the local favorites in the area. The Crab Trap for some fresh LOCAL seafood or the Happy Tomato Cafe both are good choices. You might just like some yummy dessert drop in and visit Fantastic Fudge or grab a piece of key lime pie at one of the local restaurants.
5. Explore - Take the time to explore the area. You will find a cool piece of Florida like Fort Clinch State Park which shares beautiful views and a rich part of area history. Egan’s Creek Greenway is a great area to find wildlife (walking or biking). Beware this wildlife may include snakes or even a gator. The Amelia Island Lighthouse overlooks Egan's Creek and Fort Clinch. Actual access to the lighthouse are limited to tours which are only the first and third Wednesday of the month. (plan ahead if you are wanting to visit the lighthouse) The tour does not allow you to go inside the lighthouse. You may want to grab a few photos of it from Ft.Clinch or where Egans Creek crosses Atlantic Avenue instead.

Whatever you decide to do in this area we are sure your family will enjoy the adventure!  We Love it!
